Classes


Piano Lesson Class
Students should have two pieces thoroughly prepared for study at lessons.  Chamber students will focus on their chamber repertoire.

Voice Lesson Class (Ages 11 and up)

Students enrolled in the vocal program will receive daily voice lessons. Students are encouraged to bring in vocal music to study or music will be selected by the instructor.

Chamber Class For Pianists and Strings*
A certain level of maturity is necessary to benefit from this intense experience. Students must be 12 years or older and playing at a late intermediate to advanced level. Ensembles will perform at the end of the week. 

*Students participating in the chamber class must enroll by April 20th to allow ample time for piece selection, grouping, and for students to prepare the selections. Early registration is highly recommended for these classes as enrollment is very limited.

Composition
Composition lessons are offered for those who have an interest in writing music.  Lessons will be conducted in a master class setting of  three students per session.  Students will have the opportunity to work one-on-one  on his/her composition.  Students should bring a hard copy, handwritten or printed from notation software, of their composition with them to lesson.   Corrections can be worked out on staff paper or students are welcome to bring a laptop with notation software. 

Ensemble Class For Pianists
This class is for students who are age 11 and up and at a intermediate level . Students will work together in the keyboard lab on various ensemble pieces.   Students will be notified as to what music needs to be purchased and prepared ahead of time.

Handbell Class
Students will learn various ringing techniques by participating in this fun ensemble. Students will learn pieces to perform in a final concert. 

Keyboard Musicianship
This class features hands-on keyboard musicianship in the state-of-the-art lab. Students will learn valuable skills in reading and harmonization, ensemble and improvisation.

Musicanship
In this fun class, students will play games involving rhythm and movement, ear training, notation, and music history

Orff Class
This active, fun filled music class will encourage students’ creative spirit. The class will feature Orff instruments including xylophones, glockenspiels, drums and other small percussion instruments played in an ensemble.  The class will also include dance, drama, songs and games for an exciting group musical experience.


Vocal Ensemble
This core class for voice students will include blocking scenes from popular musicals.     This class culminates with a performance of the musical selection at week’s end.   Students will meet for an extra class on Monday morning. There is an additional $15 fee for this class.

Vocal Techniques
Voice students will study vocal techniques such as tone quality and breath control. Students will learn
fun and practical exercises to help them develop their voice in a healthy way.

Performance Master Class
Students learn practice techniques and mental strategies for successful performing.  Students will have opportunities to practice and perform during class.   This class is for any instrumental and vocal students.

Art                                                                                                                                                                          Students will experience a week of painting, drawing, and art fun, as they explore the art and music of master artist, Jacob Lawrence.  Class will be messy, so dress for the mess, as some of the materials will stain clothing.                                                                             A $20 dollar materials fee will be collected at registration.  Checks should be payable to Jan Glazar.                           

Mime Theater
This active theater class is led by the directors of the Chicago theater group The Mime Company. Through theater games, students will explore body language and pantomime, learn the basics of theatrical storytelling, and create original performances to share with parents and friends at the end of the session.

The Performing Body
This class is an exploration of how the performer's body can aid and enhance expression in performance. Using acting-based techniques from mime theater, improvisation and storytelling, students will address key issues facing performers: presence, confidence, and how the body influences musical expression.
