Piano Lesson Class
Students should have two pieces thoroughly prepared for study at lessons. Students who wish to perform in one of the student recitals should have one piece memorized. Chamber students will focus on their chamber repertoire.
Voice Lesson Class (Ages 11 and up)
Students enrolled in the vocal program will receive daily voice lessons. Students are encouraged to bring in vocal music to study or music will be selected by the instructor. Piano students may add this class to their camp program for an additional fee.
Chamber Class For Pianists and Strings*
A certain level of maturity is necessary to benefit from this intense experience. Students must be 12 years or older and playing at an early intermediate to advanced level. Ensembles will perform during the week.
Ensemble Class For Pianists*
This class is for students who are at least 11 years old and at an early intermediate or advanced level. Students will prepare piano duets, trios or quartets to be studied during the camp week.
Jazz Ensemble Class*
Students with one or more years of jazz experience may enroll in this class. Students will work on combo music to perform at weeks end.
*Students participating in the chamber or ensemble classes must enroll by April 20th to allow ample time for piece selection, grouping, and for students to prepare the selections. Early registration is highly recommended for these classes as enrollment is very limited.
Handbell Class
Learn various ringing techniques by participating in this fun ensemble. Students will learn pieces to perform in a final concert. New this year - Boogie Woogie Bells for the advanced class.
Keyboard Musicianship
Hands-on keyboard classes in the state-of-the-art lab. Students will learn valuable skills in reading and harmonization, ensemble and improvisation.
Music Literature
Tell me a story! Learn how composers create stories and imagery through programatic music.
Musicanship
In this fun class, students will play games involving rhythm and movement, ear training, notation, and music history
Orff Class
Through simple folk tunes, students will experience ensemble playing and creativity using percussion instruments developed by Carl Orff.
Vocal Ensemble
This core class for voice students will include blocking scenes from popular musicals.
Vocal Techniques
Voice students will study vocal techniques such as tone quality and breath control. Students will learn
fun and practical exercises to help them develop their voice in a healthy way.
Art
Ms. Jan's Favorites: Join Art Start Studio for a week of painting, drawing and art fun, as we explore favorite artists of the studio, such as George O'Keefe and Winslow Homer. Student artists will experience hands on art history along with composers of the period, while creating their own masterpieces in the style of master artists. Class will be messy so dress for the mess. Disposable smocks will be provided or you may bring your own art shirt to class.
A $19 materials fee will be collected at registration.
Mime Theater
Get ready to move in this active theater class led by the directors of the Chicago theater group The Mime Company. Through theater games, students will explore body language and pantomime, learn the basics of theatrical storytelling, and create original performances to share with parents and friends at the end of the session.
The Performing Body
This class is an exploration of how the performer's body can aid and enhance expression in performance. Using acting-based techniques from mime theater, improvisation and storytelling, students will address key issues facing performers: presence, confidence, and how the body influences musical expression.
