Core Classes and Lessons

Piano Lesson Class
Students should have two pieces thoroughly prepared for study at lessons. Students who wish to perform on one of the student recitals should have one piece memorized.  Chamber students will focus on their chamber repertoire for Friday's performance. 

Voice Lesson Class
Students enrolled in the vocal program will receive daily voice lessons.  Students are encouraged to bring in vocal music to study or music will be selected by the instructor. 
Piano students may add this class to their camp  program for an additional fee (see camp programs).

Musicianship Through Eurythmics
Student will experience musicianship using creative movement and dance!  Students will move to music in this dynamic class exploring the intricacies of rhythm, form and phrasing.

Keyboard Musicianship   
Hands-on keyboard classes in the state-of-the-art lab!  Students will learn valuable
skills in reading and harmonization,  ensemble and improvisation.

Music History
An educational and entertaining look at various styles of music from 1650 to the present.  Students will gain an understanding of their pieces by discovering the intriguing history behind the music

Theory Games and Movement
Singing, movement, and rhythm instruments, and games  make up this fun and educational class. Children will learn how to creatively play with sound through story sings, drum circles, and simple song writing.

Orff Class   
Composer and educator Carl Orff developed a wonderful system of teaching young children music skills using specially designed percussion instruments.  Through simple folk tunes, students will experience ensemble playing and creativity using instruments.

World Drumming
Students will focus on fun, intricate rhythms and layered music from different parts of the world.  Instruments used will include tubanos, djembes, marimbas, chimes and many small percussion instruments.  This class will help enhance rhythm skills while students have fun playing exciting music.

Hand Bell Class
Hand bell playing helps improve students reading ability, musicality and teamwork.  Learn various ringing techniques by participating in this fun  ensemble. Students will learn several pieces to perform in a final concert.

Vocal Techniques
Voice students will study vocal techniques such as tone quality and breath control. Students will learn fun and practical exercises to help them develop their voice in a healthy way. Students enrolled in the voice program will receive this as a core class; however, piano program students may choose this as an enrichment class.

Vocal Ensemble
This core class for voice students will include blocking scenes from popular musicals with various ensemble combinations.  Students will be provided music.
